I was mixing colors yesterday and as I was storing them, I realized that there might be another couple of tips that I could pass on. Many of you already use part or all of the storage ideas that I’ll show you, but I know how much they have helped me be more productive and wanted to share. Let me know what you think, leave a comment. Tell me what you do to store your clay.
I do want to add my name to those who are grateful to Judith Skinner for sharing her brilliant blending method. What would we do without it?
This was a very nice video and I like the notebook idea. Up till now I have been using the sandwich size plastic baggies for my sheets and blends. Do you have to get any special kind of pages so they dont react with the clay? XOXO Jamie
Jamie,
Thank you! I usually by the standard, acid free/archival quality. But I’m not sure it makes a difference with the clay. I use them for my other work as well. I’ve never had a problem except that after you used them awhile you have to pitch them or clean the inside with alcohol.
what a brilliant idea- thanks for sharing
Naama, it has really helped me. I even bought another set of drawers the other day.
Thank you so much, that was a lot of info I didn’t have but will use it. Thanks again
I’m glad you found thing you can use Martha. Thank you for letting me know.
What a great idea – I saw your sheets at the Fandango and was VERY impressed with the concept, but the tip about the recipe mixture is especially helpful.
Charline, I’m glad to share what I’ve found that helps me. Can’t wait to take a look at your work on artfire. Talk to you again soon. Thanks, Alice
I am just a beginner, any help is appreciated. I am invorgorated with your art and willingness to share. Thank you so much for caring about other crafters.
Kruela, I’m so glad you found my blog and that I helped you in any way. I’d love to see what you do as you delve deeper into this wonderful, fun world of polymer clay. Thanks for taking the time to leave me a note.
Thanks Babette, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for letting me know.
What a lot of information packed into this little video. Thank you for sharing, great website!
Hi Suzanne, I’m glad you enjoyed it and the rest of the site. Thanks for taking the time to say hello.
Hello Alice…thank you so much for sharing so much of yourself and your enthusiasm for polymer clay. I have been using your storage methods for some time. I had forgotten how to reactivate the clay…I had been rolling it…now I know better. Always great to refresh the mind….
Thank YOU.
Hi Helen, I’m really happy that you enjoyed the video again. And I’m delighted you took the time to let me know. Thank you!
Thanks Alice: I too am new to polymer clay and thought the clay would dry out too soon in the sheets. Also my conditioner has 9 for thickest and I assume you meant for the skinner blends to be at their thickest when storing.
Hi Nancy, yes I do mean the thickest setting. Glad you found polymer clay and my blog. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you so much for sharing your little tricks and tips of the trade!
Aurora, You’re so welcome, I’m happy to share.
Hello Alice,
I’m another newbie and want to thank you for being so generous in showing how you work. I was most impressed with the clear way you teach as you talk and move your fingers and tools at the same time, as if you were in the same room. It’s really confidence building. I also love the fact that you intimate confidence that your high standards are achievable by anyone, though we all know we may not reach them for some time, if ever. At least we will enjoy striving, and you are doing your very best to help us.
I look forward to the stimulation of other entries on your site, it may well prompt me to actually try, not just intend.
Jane, just so you know, it works both ways, your words have given me more confidence to share other things in hopes that more people will give Polymer clay a try. i love to teach and believe in as much explanation as possible.
Your work can be better than mine, the more you do, the better it becomes.
Thank you so much for starting this day for me in such a positive lovely way.
Alice
Look at that! There really is no end to your genius! I never ever ever would have thought of storing Skinner blends in an office binder, and including the recipes to boot. What a fantastic idea!
You really have a knack for using good common sense, something that can elude even the most sensible people sometimes. You’ve taught me the sorts of things that would have caused me a struggle, and for that I’m forever grateful!
It just occurred to me as I watched this again, that the notebook pages would also be an ideal way to store all those leftovers from working with mokume gane projects. The same could also be used for texture plates. Especially the home made ones. Hope youre having a great day. :}
You’re so right Jamie, I use the plastic pages for lot of things. I buy them in packs of 100. lol
Have a great weekend.
