Just finished this first workshop on how to make canes, and I must say I learned so much. This is exactly what I have been looking for, someone who could explain cane making in a step by step that process that I could replicate. I watched the videos, went into my studio and began to create all of the canes Alice showed. I finally have results I can be proud of, and I say thank you so much for doing this workshop. My only question now is when do we get more workshops. If you are only going to take one online class let it be this workshop. The reason I ask is that mine is slightly domed, which indicates (at least to my uninformed brain) that it might be less likely to come unattached.
I always glue mine back down just to be safe. I always use the domed bracelets and they will come away from the blank at some point. I had a great time, thanks for coming.

I have your pen and ink tute and love it, I sold a bracelet the other day and the gal really liked it, however, the bracelet base is made of brass and she complained that it made her arm turn green, is there anything you do or know of to do to stop the green?

The only thing I can think of is to coat the brass with clear fingernail polish. I wish I could tell you something else.

Are you using raw clay and then after you glue to bracelt …then bake the piece?
Hi Mary, No it’s all baked and then you pop it off and then……glue it back to the blank.
Question: I’m new to PC, so perhaps this is a silly question, but here goes. If I were attaching a beaded piece to a metal frame, I would want to line the inner metal part (the part that is next to my skin) with some sort of fabric, microsuede, etc. Since you’re peeling the PC off the blank anyway, wouldn’t this be a good time to slip in some lining? Or is that just not done with PC?
Hi Leslie, I have never used fabric on my bracelets. Many Pcers cover both front and back with polymer, I just choose not to. Give it a try and see! That’s how new techniques are invented, what’s the worst that could happen? Thanks for stopping in.
Leslie your idea is a very good one. I line my bangles with microsuede. Just make sure to try on the bangle with the microsuede before you do the polymer clay. I don’t attach it yet but you need to fit with the suede before the baking. I did one great piece, attached the suede and it didn’t fit properly. Argh. It doesn’t seem like much room but it makes a difference. I attach it after the baking, after I popped off the clay and before I glue on the clay. I glue on the suede, check the measurements again and then reapply the clay. I work quickly because the clay is only pliable for a short length of time, especially if you have to pull it over the sides a little.

Thanks for this tutorial. I didn’t know these kinds of bracelets were made with fexible polymer or that the blank had to be left on.
What kind of flexible polymer do you recommend?
Can cuff bracelets be made with the blank removed?
Hi Kim, this is just what I do. You can make pc bracelets with no metal at all, it just needs to be solid all around, a bangle rather than a cuff. Pc in cuff form with no base will heat up when you wear it and fall off your wrist.

Great tutorial. I am new to clay. I want to cover a metal heart with a thin bit of clay. My thought was to wrap it thinly with clay – pressing down into the raised design – – then bake it. Do I first cover the heart with the glue as in your bracelet – then press the clay around it – then bake? Thanks in advance for your wonderful advice.

Hi Verni, welcome to the world of pc. If you’re covering the intire heart, you don’t have to use glue. If you’re only covering half the heart, cover it, bake it then pop it off the heart. It should come off easily, then add a bit of glue to the heart and put the pc back on. Thanks for stopping by and have fun!
Learned a lot from your tutorial and wonder if this process would work to attach a pc designed handle to a kitchen utensil. If I fit it around the metal handle, then bake and then glue to the handle would that work or would I have to do two parts and join them around the handle. I’m thinking of a chubby (roundish) big spoon handle.

If the clay fits completely around the handle, there’s no need to cut it off and re-glue it. It should stay on just fine.
I agree. I made a commission piece at Christmas and wrapped the clay around the blank. I trimmed the clay leaving about a centimeter lip on the underside. It was important to make sure my lines were smooth and level. After I baked it I filled it in with another patterned piece of clay. The underside ended up looking as nice as the top and it solved the problem of metal against the skin.

Thanks so much for this great video about gluing clay to metal bracelets! One question just for clarification: once you glue the clay to the brass bangle, the whole thing goes in the oven to bake, yes? (I mean, otherwise, your clay would already be hardened and unable to flex around the cuff). And the glue handles the oven temps okay? Thanks for the info!! Leah
Leah, the clay is baked first, no need to put it back in the oven. I use Premo which is the most flexible clay. i can’t say how other clays will respong. but please bake before.
