The Stroppel Cane – Saving Unused Cane Slices From Ending Up in the Mud Pile!
I am very excited to share my newest invention with you. I call it The Stroppel Cane! For the last couple of months, as I clean up my workspace after a project, I make a Stroppel Cane from the “not so perfect cane slices” and any other scraps I have on my work tile.
You can use these canes in any number of ways and I’ll be featuring some projects here on my blog in the future. From time to time, just do a search for The Stroppel Cane and see what comes up.
Please leave a comment it you liked this new video. Without feed back I don’t know if what I’m sharing is reaching anyone or if you are enjoying or finding what I’m sharing useful. And do share it on Facebook and Twitter and send the link to your friends. I love hearing from you in any form. Enjoy!

Hi Alice. thanks for your nice Newsletter, and glad you had such a good time at your retreat.
Love this take on scrap clay. Love the way you layer the pieces, makes for some original designs.I too hate to not use my scrap clay.
I will hopefuly send you some thing I have made from my efforts with my scrap clay, I would never have thought of the layering, which is great. Now I will add this to my repertoire and make even better use of my scraps. Thanks for your generosity.
Love your site.

Hi Alice.
I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. I double-clicked instead of single-clicking the mouse and it worked. Talked about a brain freeze, lol.
I love the Stroppel cane. Great way to use scraps. Can’t wait to try it myself. Also looking forward to seeing what else you make with yours.
You are a wonderful artist and so giving. Thank you for the time and talent you’ve shared with me and so many others.
Elis,
Votre accueil, je suis si content que vous ayez apprécié et pris le temps de dire bonjour.
Alissa and Nina, thanks so much for saying hello…..means a lot.

Hi, Alice!
I’m just beginning to work in polymer clay….I’m a bead weaver right now…and probably will be until my eyesight gives out. I can see all sorts of possibities for making cabs to use in my work by incorporating what I now will call my “happy accidents” as I move into a new medium. Thanks so much for sharing your great technique.
Fantastic idea! I am just starting canes and I have small pieces all over the place. I hate tossing them into the mud pile. But they take up so much room otherwise. This is a great tip. Thanks again!
Very cool looking cane. I look forward to having less mud in the future!
Great technique- I can’t wait to get started. I have a notebook full of sheet protecters with scrap clay to try this with!! Thanks so much for sharing your fabulous idea. I love how the scrap canes look!!
Hey Alice,
Love your Stroppel cane video. The colors are wonderful and the idea to use up those leftover bits is genius. I often feel like a stalker because I come to your site everyday to get inspiration and enjoy your latest creations.
Linda
P.S. Hope your hair has grown out since you hated the short style you had at Fandango.
Hi Alice,
I love your new Stoppel cane .I can’t wait to try it.I like you can’t stand the thought of throwing it away or making gray clay out of my ends and things. Thanks so much for the new cane. I love all of your ideas.
Margie
Jo and Roberta and Barbara and Heather and Marge…I am truly blown away by all the comments and reaction to the Stroppel Cane! I’m so glad I shared it. Thank you all for taking the time to say hi. It means a lot to me.
Catherine, so happy to be able to share. Thank you.
Hey Miss Linda girl, Thanks for coming out of stalkdom…..lol. My hair has grown and I do like it so much better. Before we turn around Fandango will be here again. I’m going to be demonstrating next year, did you know?
Hi Alice,
I love the idea of using every scrap possible in this structured way.
Many thanks for sharing.
Kate, me tooI 🙂 thanks for saying hello.
that is So Cool!! THANK you! I do believe I can now reduce my pile o’ mud clay!
WOWZA!!! How cool is that!! I think of all the little pieces I just ball up into a pile of yuck!! Your creativity is amazing! Thanks so much for sharing!
Kam, just wait until you make your first one! You’ll be hooked……-
Alice, Finally got the video to work and was really excited about trying your SSC. My problem was I don’t do a lot of canes but did have some scrap Mokume Gane laying around so I squished them tog. along with a few canes and started making SSC’s. You are just fantastic! This is such a great idea. I’ve made 4 so far this afternoon and now have what I need to make one of you fish. One of them I used white rather than black and I just love it….so clean looking. One I didn’t care for so I cut the sections out I did like and used it in another SSC. I now must start using these before I produce anymore. This could get addictive. Thanks bunches!
PENNY, Yay for perseverance, I’m so glad you got to watch it and are so happy with it. I’d love to see those fishies…..thanks for letting me know.
Alice you are so generous to share this awesome technique. It’s so wonderfully simple, but produces some amazing results. I’m in the middle of making some pendants with the Stroppel cane method and am thrilled with the outcome. Thanks again.
Hi Alice! Excellent use of cane scrap. Thank you for posting and sharing. I think I will have to start making canes to do this now (or just cruise the tables at my next retreats in Germany and Nottingham and ask politely for the ‘unwanted leftovers’ – tee hee). Of course when they see the result, I will tell them about your video….
my best wishes and hope to meet you one day!
Kerrie
I LOVED your cat face cane!(wish my scraps were that fabulous!) Thank you for being so generous with your talent with this cane, I have about a 5 pound box of scraps and canes, can’t wait to try your awesome technique out!!! Thank You!
Hi Alice, your cane is brilliant. I have just tried it out and it works so well. I love your work, thanks for taking the time to share this.
