Just finished this first workshop on how to make canes, and I must say I learned so much. This is exactly what I have been looking for, someone who could explain cane making in a step by step that process that I could replicate. I watched the videos, went into my studio and began to create all of the canes Alice showed. I finally have results I can be proud of, and I say thank you so much for doing this workshop. My only question now is when do we get more workshops. If you are only going to take one online class let it be this workshop. Alice, I love your bracelet, it’s adorable. I wanted to ask you about something in your fish tutorial (which was great) you said you use Orange Hand Cleaner from Napa to smooth out the clay and get rid of the finger prints. Do you wash it off before you bake it? I use corn starch to smooth out the surface and get rid of finger prints but am thinking a liquid would be better. I’ve tried water and watered down corn starch.

Thanks Bonnie, I do not wash the cleaner off. Just bake it like you would normally. Thank you for the compliment and link to the calendar. I’ll check it out.
I’m still practising my skinner blends and I’ve noted many effects with them. What an interesting concept.
I read that acetone – after baking – takes off prints as well. I’ve tried it out and found it doesn’t take off the deeper fingernail prints that really need sanding out. Otherwise it is great.

Aimee, Even the cleaner won’t take off the really deep finger prints. I haven’t tried the acetone yet. I use it for other things so I have some on hand.

It’s funny Lynda, when I first started playing with clay I thought I was struggling with color, but now I think I was just being thoughtful. Taking my time about deciding. Thank you for the compliment. I do owe much to the skinner blends.
