Polymer Clay Canes for Beginners

27 videos, step by step, beginner cane workshop beginner Cane Tutorial What people are saying about this tutorial. jennifer rose Just finished this first workshop on how to make canes, and I must say I learned so much. This is exactly what I have been looking for, someone who could explain cane making in a step by step that process that I could replicate. I watched the videos, went into my studio and began to create all of the canes Alice showed. I finally have results I can be proud of, and I say thank you so much for doing this workshop. My only question now is when do we get more workshops. If you are only going to take one online class let it be this workshop. Thank you Alice for your hard work, and your dedication to helping others learn the joys of polymer clay.

BFF Ornament Going to The Creative Native

Best Friend Forever

Best Friends Forever

Pam Moody from The Creative Native Gallery is having her annual ornament display this year and I’m making some best girlfriend ornaments to add to the mix. Each will a have a witty saying on the back, but you’ll have to stop in The Creative Native to choose yours.

I’ll be making more for my Etsy Shop and The Highlands Art League too, but I promised Pam that I would get some to her soon.

Here’s an ornament I made in 2005 when I was still working on perfecting my faces. (actually, I’m still working on perfecting my faces)  This one had 7 girls on it and it hangs in my studio. I thought this year was a good year to revisit these ornaments and take a look at how far I’ve come.

I made this ornament to celebrate my Best Female Friends. We are still friends and it’s a great thing to have this group of fabulous women standing beside me, plus covering my back…….

Well Alice – looking at the two ornaments has me wondering about how YOU feel about them. What are the changes and advancements YOU see?

I see refinements along the way – in the latest the girls don’t stand out as much or perhaps it’s just that they aren’t as thick as the 2005 girls. Perhaps they’ve been dieting??

I love your gals – you already know that. And this comparison has created tons of thinking for me.

I went out yesterday and bought myself a big round sheet of glass at a thrift shop. I think I’m ready! (gulp) That being said – I must do some gals and put them aside on something so that I can make a comparison 5 years down the road.

btw – you sound so incredibly up and happy these days! Woohooo!

One more thing – that red head looks a lot like me. How did you know??

  • Alice

Oh I look at the older one and and wonder why I continued to make faces. I thought they were so cool, but I can see the differences for sure and am glad I continued.

It’s good to see you again too Aims….you have red hair huh?

Hi! I just look at your blog, and fall in love with it! All this creativity, this is fabulous. but I was wondering, when you put your clay on your ornament, or your salt & pepper shakers or your bracelet, do you put glue before? if yes, what kink of glue do you use? Are your finish items can be wash? I try to make some bottles covers and they crack in the oven and when I put them in hot water it was easy to left them over. I would appreciate a respond, thank you

Mandreel, thank you so much, I’m glad you are enjoying my blog. When I cover an item completely, I don’t use any glue, the clay can’t come off. When I have a design to put on a vase I use super glue. Here’s a video on how to attach pc to bracelets http://polymerclayetc.com/?p=1559.
You CAN wash everything. Maybe you’re clay wasn’t thick enough or you used a brand that is too brittle or…..you didn’t bake it long enough. I only use clays that a flexible after baking. I use Premo, but Kato clay and some other work very well. Sculpey III is very brittle after baking if it is thin.
    Thanks again…Alice

  • Hi Alice – I’m just loving your blog! There are so many fantastic projects it’s hard to know what to look at first. :) I think both ornaments are incredibly fun…just different. I don’t know that I could choose just one. 😉

Keep up the amazing and inspirational work – it’s great to look at your work and absorb all the inspiration coming from it! xx
