Teaching At Woman Creative

I’m thrilled to tell you I’ll be guest artist in June at Barbara McGuire and Ellen Prophater’s new fabulous Woman Creative Art and Jewelry Design Center just outside Atlanta in Buford, GA.

The fun will begin on Friday night June 3, where I’ll be the guest of honor at an Artist Reception to kick off the week-end. It’s going to be a great time and I hope you can be there.

On Saturday and Sunday I’ll be delving further into two favorite techniques that I’ve developed using polymer clay. The first class on Saturday from, 11:00 to 5:00, will be Pen and Ink Polymer, using Polymer clay as your canvas you can soar as high as your imagination can take you.

You don’t have to “know how to draw” to have fun with this technique and create colorful results you’ll be proud to wear. Read more about it here.

The second class on Sunday, June 5th, from 12:00 to 4:00, will be Cane Mapped Mosaics. I’ve given away a 20 min. video cane mapped mosaics for free since the beginning of my blog. This class will bring us all together too explore the many possibilities with this technique and to take a closer look at color choices.

Girlfriends from OAPCG Workshop

When I taught my Profile Face Cane class to some of the members of the Orlando Area Polymer Clay Guild, I was delighted to have 14 people attend and all of them create faces with their own individual style. I asked them all to send pictures of their finished girls and I want to show them here.

If you were in that class and want to send me pictures, I’m waiting. But I didn’t have to wait for Charline Ahlgreen, president of OAPCG, she brought this cool glass vase with her to class and by the end she had her face placed on it, added hair or maybe they are butterflies? Plus a cool collar.

Mary Jenkins, Treasurer, had a great start on her girl as well. Before we packed up to go home she had a fabulous slice of her face cane complete with collar, hair and very cool hat. Looks like she was going to end up on a bracelet

Sherry Caley was the first to send me a picture of her girl. I was waiting for a clearer one, but I’m posting this one now and if you send me another one Sherry, I’ll replace it. Her hair, hat and collar look great, very 3d.

Rose Long was next with this great photo of too small journal covers. I love how she used flowers for the hair on the first girl. I can tell she went home and made another face. The more you make the better they get, trust me. I love both of these girls, each has it’s own special character. Very cool idea.

Then there is Crazy Nancy Welch. She called me to see if I would teach this class, so I owe all the fun to her. She has been very busy with her girls and has created tons of great things. You can see that she made another face cane too. Love em both.

Polymer Face Cane Workshop with OAPCG

OAPCG Profile Face Cane Class 2010

Yesterday I taught my profile face cane to some of the women of the Orlando Area Polymer Clay Group. What a great group of clayers and a fun group to teach. Sandy and Nita hosted the class in the meeting room where they live, it was perfect. Thank you so much.

Thanks to Crazy Nancy Welch for inviting me to teach. ( You better watch out though CN because your fabulous dream machine pasta machine might just turn up missing one day, *G* geez now I gotta work hard to afford one just like you)

The group each brought a dish for a pot luck and let me tell you it was better than we could have bought anywhere. Thanks ladies, I loved everything and ate way too much.

OAPCG Profile Faces 2010

Look at these girls, even bald they have character. Each clayer finished a face and watched how to apply them to a bracelet or pin or even to a container. Charlene brought a vase along with her and before the end of the class had already applied a face with hair and flower. Mary had hair on her girl and Nancy’s girl ( the one with attitude) was placed on clay ready for hair. Linda used her extruder and leftover clay to give her sassy girl a wavy do.

I hope they all send me pictures of what they make. Hair makes a big difference with these characters.

My Class with Julie Picarello at Orlando Clay Fandango

My Items From Julie Picarello's Class

It was the second day at Orlando Clay Fandango and in my classroom we had an new teacher. Julie Picarello had moved into the teachers chair and we all gather around to see what’s was in store for us.

Julie’s tips on color mixing was worth the price of admission. Her knowledge combined with her clear instructions made her class a joy to take. She shows you simple techniques that enable you to create a finished piece of work you can be proud of.

By lunch time we were all so into what we were doing and Julie said we needed to finish the step we were on so it could rest, none of us left for lunch, including Julie. The other classes made fun of the “detention” class and Julie instantly was branded as a slave driver. ( Don’t misunderstand, we wanted to stay, we were “into” it) We finally went to lunch! And we did get to dinner on time, and like Sarah, Julie was back after supper ready to help us with whatever we needed.

Needless to say the teasing continued on into the next day, with lots of laughter and friendly class competition.

Julie provided a great handout that takes you through the process with colored pictures. This certainly helps when you get home because you are learning so much in such a short period of time that it’s difficult to remember all the steps. Sarah and Christi made sure we went home with instructions also, but Julie included a handy source list as well.

I haven’t finished my pieces yet and I have lots of slices ready to mount, but I’m pleased with the results. Including the lizard tail….
