Polymer Clay Canes for Beginners 27 videos, step by step, beginner cane workshop
What people are saying about this tutorial.
jennifer rose
Just finished this first workshop on how to make canes, and I must say I learned so much. This is exactly what I have been looking for, someone who could explain cane making in a step by step that process that I could replicate. I watched the videos, went into my studio and began to create all of the canes Alice showed. I finally have results I can be proud of, and I say thank you so much for doing this workshop. My only question now is when do we get more workshops. If you are only going to take one online class let it be this workshop. Thank you Alice for your hard work, and your dedication to helping others learn the joys of polymer clay.

Girlfriends Pins
A couple of girlfriend pins went to The Creative Native Gallery this week along with the girlfriend ornaments. I see a mother and daughter in the one and a very funny character in the other one.
I’ve been busy with bracelets and ornaments. Claying away and keeping the oven busy baking load after load of colorful, funky, fun, things. While others are making witches and goblins, I’m thinking of line green, turquoise and fuchsia. Funny how life changes without you even realizing it. I was a halloween queen when I was younger, with children at home. Love everything about it, made things and patterns and decorated the house….all great fun.
Now we live far from town and not one trick or treater has ever come to our house in 15 years. Kind of sad I guess, but on the other hand, I can turn my focus to other things. Actually, it’s kind of freeing to be out of step sometimes.
Now back to my clay table and the non Halloween bracelets……
I’ve been on a roll, covering these ornaments and creating these girlfriend ornaments. By using different skinner blends for backgrounds I’m not using traditional Christmas colors for a reason. I want these ornaments to be able to be viewed and displayed at other times of the year too.
We all have one of those ornament stands that will display one special ornament. Well why not add one of those to a polymer clay ornament that has a special message for the recipient. I did a google search and found them for 2.50 and up.
Order an ornament from my Etsy Shop (adding a couple by the end of the day today) or create one yourself. But get started, Christmas is just around the corner.
Best Friends Forever
Pam Moody from The Creative Native Gallery is having her annual ornament display this year and I’m making some best girlfriend ornaments to add to the mix. Each will a have a witty saying on the back, but you’ll have to stop in The Creative Native to choose yours.
I’ll be making more for my Etsy Shop and The Highlands Art League too, but I promised Pam that I would get some to her soon.
Here’s an ornament I made in 2005 when I was still working on perfecting my faces. (actually, I’m still working on perfecting my faces) This one had 7 girls on it and it hangs in my studio. I thought this year was a good year to revisit these ornaments and take a look at how far I’ve come.
2005
I made this ornament to celebrate my Best Female Friends. We are still friends and it’s a great thing to have this group of fabulous women standing beside me, plus covering my back…….
I’m beginning to upload the girlfriend bracelets I made last week to my Etsy Shop. I’m going to have to take the time to make more face canes. I’m still working on the tutorial for this full face, but keep getting distracted. Lately, distracted in a good way, selling, doing demos, meeting other clayers, teaching, and enjoying the summer. So no complaints from this girl.
This is just an aside…. one of my friends, contacts actually, on facebook wrote something that made me laugh. I don’t remember who it was, but I know she had to have been very young. She was ranting about “all these woman that are over 40, sometimes even in the 60s calling themselves “girl”. Why don’t they just grow up and realize that they will never be “girls” again.”
I will always be that “girl” who is just waiting for the next cool thing to jump into my life. I wish I could be around when that young girl crosses over into the land of the “older girl” and she finds that she doesn’t grow up either.
You have to venture over to my Etsy Shop to see all sides of this bracelet. Each one of the Girlfriends Galore bracelets have 7 individual faces, I’m thinking a lucky number.
Thanks for stopping in today.
Every one of the last group of “Girlfriend Galore” bracelets went to new homes last week. Two traveled all the way around the world to Cyprus and one went to a friend. I was thrilled.
Girlfriends Galore
Plus another single girl sold to a high school friend. How nice is that. When friends buy things from you when you least expect it, it’s a good feeling.
So these are several new bracelets I’ve made for the first friend who wants more. As soon as she takes what she wants, I’ll post the rest in my Etsy shop.
Still working on bracelets as I work on other ideas. this one is now for sale in my Etsy shop.
Girlfriends Galore 3
Another bunch of girls going to my Etsy Shop. These bracelets have 7 girls in 7 different hats arranged around the length of the bracelet. So colorful and fun to wear. No problem matching whatever you decide to wear that day.
Colorful and Fun to Wear
Still have to find time to finish the idea I have for my tropical leaves necklace and am working on profile face canes for a workshop I have coming up. I also have to plan a three week class for beginners.
I’ll be demo-ing polymer clay at Highlands Art League on the 2nd Friday Gallery Walk in downtown Sebring. Sept. 10, 2010. It’s always a fun evening and I’ll be demo-ing in the visual arts center down by Lake Jackson. It’s a building I worked on as Director for the Art League so we could have classes there. It’s a wonderful space, if you’re anywhere near Sebring, come on over.

Girlfriends Galore 2
I’ve uploaded another girlfriend bracelet to my Etsy Shop. I’m trying very hard to get ahead of myself. I’m going to be teaching more this year and have to create more stock now.
Girlfriends Galore 2
I’m also trying a new background. I spend alot of time cutting out my items in Photoshop and am trying to find a way to cut down on that. I know the other looks better, but does this work too? Opinions, be honest.
Girlfriends 2
Another bracelet for sale in my Etsy Shop. I’m in the faces/girlfriend makin’ mood. I have a couple more already baked and ready for pictures. That’s the part that is a chore for me. I can do it, it’s not hard, it’s just that I’d rather be making something else. Like the rest of my leaf necklace.
Oh well, just have to do it. I still haven’t taken pictures of the individual face beads to put in the shop. I sold a couple to my neighbor from across the lake, thanks Karen…..and I think some others are going this week, so I might not have to post them on Etsy, we’ll see.
In the meantime, take a look at this girlfriend bracelet, it really could be the perfect gift for a special friend. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Girlfriends Forever
I was delighted that the bracelet I put up yesterday sold last night, it’s going to live in Cyprus. I love it when my work goes somewhere else in the world, it’s exciting. I have several more in the works, and I’m still trying to finish the Tropical Leaves necklace.
The Other Girlfriend
I’ve posted this girlfriend bracelet in my Etsy Store. One is a blonde and one is a redheaded woman. So much fun to make, to decide what they’re going to wear and what kind of hats to put on their heads.
Okay off to work on the necklace.
