Polymer Clay Canes for Beginners

27 videos, step by step, beginner cane workshop beginner Cane Tutorial What people are saying about this tutorial. jennifer rose Just finished this first workshop on how to make canes, and I must say I learned so much. This is exactly what I have been looking for, someone who could explain cane making in a step by step that process that I could replicate. I watched the videos, went into my studio and began to create all of the canes Alice showed. I finally have results I can be proud of, and I say thank you so much for doing this workshop. My only question now is when do we get more workshops. If you are only going to take one online class let it be this workshop. Thank you Alice for your hard work, and your dedication to helping others learn the joys of polymer clay.

New Polymer Clay Bracelet Listed In My Etsy Shop

I am so happy to have figured out my new phone that is now my hotspot for connecting to the internet. Actually it wasn’t the phone that I had to figure out, it was the adapter for my Mac. Three weeks of round and round until I found the right tech guy that knew that all I had to do was change one little setting. Man, sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it all. Then right away, I decide it is. So Yea, back to normal maybe.

Here is the newest listing to my Etsy Shop.

Sonia - polymer clay bracelet - Alice Stroppel

Sonia

I’ve been making some different flowers and leaves lately and you can see some of them on this bracelet.

Sonia side2 - polymer clay bracelet - Alice Stroppel

Sonia side 2

This Bracelet and the ones from the last month or so are more dimensional than my other bracelets. I kind of like them chunkier. They are interesting to wear.

I like the soft colors for a change too. I like how Barbara McGuire creates that soft look. However I don’t use as much translucent as she does. I used her newest stamp sheet on this, it looks so good and adds just the right touch. Of course, this is the face cane I made in Barbara’s class.

Laquita Carter’s Face Cane Pin

Friday Girl - Laquita Carter

Friday Girl - Laquita Carter

Here’s Laquita’s Friday Girl from our Friday clay play day. She had to scan her, I think she’s fabulous and am glad to be able to show you Laquita’s pin.

It really is fun to get together with other clayers and be able to create and share. I don’t have many people here that even know what polymer clay is let alone actually work with it. So it was nice to have Laquita make the long trip to spend the day.

Today was full of yard work and swimming in the lake. Our dog loves to fetch in the lake. Wears us all out but good fun. So, sun and work and some hamburger on the grill, that was today.

Tomorrow is a special day!

Polymer Clay Face Pin

Polymer clay facepin - Alice Stroppel

My friend Laquita Carter came to visit yesterday and we had another fun clay day.

I had an old small face pin sitting on the table and Laquita said she wished I had some of those for sale on my Etsy site. She wanted to buy that one, but I said, “why not make one”. So that’s what we did.

We both used the same face and came up with completely different characters. Mine is the one shown here and I know you will find this hard to believe, but yet another clay day went by and I didn’t take a picture of us, what we worked on or anything. As soon as Laquita left, I did the slap up side of my head move and almost ran down the road to get her back.

I’m going to email her and ask her to send a picture. The most important thing was that we had a great day and enjoyed and learned from each other.

She even brought me some of two really cool canes she made and some color recipes with chips. That was great, thanks Laquita

I have to put the pin back on this girl and then she’ll go in my Etsy shop. I think I’m gonna make some more.  This one is 1  1/2″X 1  1/2″. Little but really catches your eye.

Polymer Clay Face Bracelet Listed in My Etsy Shop

I’m trying to take pictures and post to my Etsy Shop all the bracelets that I have finished and ready to send off to live with someone who will love them. It’s not my favorite part, I’d rather be making more canes and finished pieces.

But I’m not really complaining, if it’s the worse thing I have to do, well…..life is pretty good.

This is one of my face canes that I reduced and while I was reducing I made the face longer and thinner. So that a face cane that I have used before to create a rounded face, is now transformed into a totally different look. Fun!

Polymer Clay Face Cane Bracelet Series – Video

I am so relieved. My internet connection is actually working today and I was able to upload the following video featuring my new bracelet.

This New Bracelet video gives my Etsy customers a better look at these new bracelets and a simple explanation of what a cane is. Visit my Etsy Shop for the bracelets that are for sale.

Blue Flowers and Faces in Polymer Clay

Face Cane Bracelet 13 of 13

I didn’t get the video uploaded, but I still have hopes that my connectivity problems will be solved soon. I’m happy to be able to upload a couple of pictures of another finished bracelet.

Actually, I’ve finished all 13 bracelet made from this face cane. I like this one because of the blue flower. It really stands out when you wear it. I always give my bracelets a test wear, I wore this one yesterday to the bank, grocery store and a neighborhood party.

The woman at the bank noticed it right away and told me how much she liked it. A woman in the grocery store made a comment and several people at the party couldn’t get over the fact that it was all clay and no paint. We all run into that I know.

I’ll be listing several more in my Etsy shop this afternoon. Next week, it’s on to another face cane like this one only better. (saying that with my fingers crossed) I learn from each try and hopefully get better as I go.

New Video Featuring New Bracelets

Polymer Clay Face cane bracelets - Alice StroppelI’ve been having internet problems and haven’t been able to upload a video I made. I’m posting a still photo from the video today and hope to have the video uploaded by tomorrow. Be sure to check back then.

I took several of my pieces down to Highlands Art League in Sebring, FL and am offering them for sale in The Yellow House gallery/giftshop. The house was built in 1922 by George Sebring. Volunteers spend hours restoring it and now it serves as home to artists and their work and it also houses the office for the art league.

This Friday is the 1st Friday gallery walk at the league and downtown Sebring. The Art League will have three of it’s four buildings open with activities in each one. If you are looking for something to do and are close by, aim your car for Highlands Art League and the circle in downtown Sebring

A Fabulously Artful Weekend

I had a great time in Tampa this weekend. Visited with my youngest son Jason, went to a gallery exhibit on Franklin Street, went to the new Tampa Art Museum and sat in the new Curtis Hixon park listening to the concert in the park. My husband and I spent several New Years eves in the old Curtis Hixon convention center and now it’s gone, they’ve torn the old building down and there sits the Museum and the park.

There is a playground for the kids, water features, and grass covered tiers for families to bring their tables, chairs, food and refreshments. It all overlooks the Hillsborough River and is truly lovely.

The next morning we went to Hyde Park Village to watch the sidewalk chalk artists create their masterpieces. After that , I said goodbye and was off to The Creative Native Gallery. Dogs to adopt, fabulous artwork and friends to share it all with. What could be better? Nancy Welch and her sister Nita Baker from Orlando Clay Fangango came over to say hello and I was so happy to see them.  Thanks you guys for coming all that way.

Face Cane Bracelets Finished – More on the Way

Polymer clay face cane group - alice stroppelI’m working on this group of bracelets while being distracted by my life.  I like that though, being able to stop claying and just leave it there until I have the time or the desire to work with it again. It’s a great feeling.

I had fun just arranging these three for a picture. Couldn’t decide which one to use. they almost look like an abstract piece of art when they are together this way.

I’ve listed one in my Etsy shop and there are three more in the oven. These three and the three in the oven are going with me to Tampa to The Creative Native event on Saturday.

There’s also lots to see and do in Tampa this weekend. An art events downtown on Friday  evening at the Franklin Street Fine Woodwork Studios, one block away at the Cafe Hey and a Chalkwalk event all three days in the Hyde Park area. there is also an exhibit at Blake High School showcasing works by graduating art students.
